How agencies can add call tracking to every SEO retainer
Call tracking turns an SEO report from rankings and traffic into calls and leads. Here is how agencies can roll it out across their clients, price it and use it to keep clients for longer.
Most SEO clients do not care about rankings for their own sake. They care whether the phone rings. Agencies that can show calls from organic search and Google Business Profile, each one recorded and summarised, have a much easier time at renewal.
Why include it as standard
Selling call tracking as an optional extra means some clients take it and most do not. Including it in every retainer means every client sees the results of your work in the terms they care about, and you have the data to prove it.
Pricing it
Wholesale call tracking makes this affordable. On our Agency plan, a client account costs £22 a month once you are past the first ten. Many agencies either build that into the retainer price or charge it as a separate line at £39 to £69 a month, which gives a healthy margin on its own.
Rolling it out
- Start with your clients who get most of their leads by phone, usually trades, legal, dental and local services.
- Add a tracking number to each client's Google Business Profile and website, using a local number in their area code.
- Turn on recording, with an announcement, and AI summaries.
- Set up a branded monthly report that leads with calls and real leads from organic search and the profile.
- Walk each client through their first report on a call.
What to put in the monthly report
- Calls and real leads from organic search and Business Profile, this month against last month and last year
- The landing pages that brought calls
- A few example call summaries, so the numbers feel real
- Missed calls and answer rate, with a suggestion if it is low
The retention effect
Clients who can see calls rising tend to stay. When things dip, call data helps too: you can see whether the drop is in search visibility, or in how calls are being answered, which turns a difficult conversation into a useful one.
